Chelsea Boss Maresca Rejects Manchester City Speculation as '100%' Gossip
Chelsea gaffer Enzo Maresca has labelled fresh talk connecting him with a move to Manchester City as nothing but hearsay.
The 45-year-old, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's right-hand man at the Etihad, addressed the ongoing speculation about his future.
Maresca, named Chelsea manager in June 2024, has a contract running through the end of the decade, with a possible extra year option.
"It doesn't affect me at all because I know that is 100% speculation," Maresca said. "And at this moment, there is no time for these kind of things."
He went on to explain, "First of all, because I have a contract here until 2029. And my focus, I have stated many times, is just about this club and I'm very proud to be here. But again, it's speculation. One week ago I was linked with Juventus in Italy. So I ignore it because I know that is without foundation."
Chelsea, presently placed fourth in the Premier League, are set to face Newcastle United on Saturday in a 12:30 GMT kick-off.
Tensions After Previous Remarks
Maresca's most recent statement follow after he described a recent two-day spell as his "worst" since arriving at Chelsea.
Those original remarks had fueled widespread talk of a potential rift between the coach and the club's ownership hierarchy.
When pressed if he had since spoken with the club's leadership, Maresca replied, "We are in the same building, so we speak about different things. But about the Everton press conference, no."
The Italian however affirmed he would "absolutely" stay at the club next season and urged the fans to keep backing the team".
In more positive news, Maresca indicated that injured forwards Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could return ahead of schedule, potentially available for a match against Aston Villa later this month.
Perspective: Unresolved Tension
The perceived strain between Maresca and the Chelsea board persists as an unhealed issue that still create unease.
While there has been no deepening of the situation publicly, there has equally been no apology forthcoming, leaving the disagreement unresolved.
The mood during these press conferences has grown notably strained, raising concerns it could undermine what has up to now been a decent start to the season.
Chelsea's on-field situation is positive: they are fourth in the league, have qualified for the Carabao Cup semi-finals, and can secure a better European position with good results in their final matches.
The prevailing question is whether this off-field dynamic might eventually disrupt a team that was just starting to look cohesive.
