The star has donated the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize cash to the MVT, which operates to preserve the United Kingdom's independent music venues.

The star was presented with the prize on 16 October as his latest record his work was chosen as the top album of the previous year.

Fender has decided to give the cash to the MVT, in appreciation of the vital role small stages fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I wouldn't be doing this success if it weren't for all the gigs I did around the region, and further afield, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these venues have permanently closed – about one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, major artists including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its attempts to support the industry, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

He also participated, raising in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to help numerous local spots across the UK.

These funds assisted venues that were dealing with possible closure due to issues caused by floods, blazes and bereavements, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and sound issues.

Some locations obtained financial assistance in improving infrastructure and gear that positively impacted musicians and concertgoers.

"The notion that revenue from performances in large arenas backs the smaller venues, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

He is far from the only musician to donate his award funds to good deeds.

Back when Pulp earned the prize in the year 1996 for their record their work, frontman Jarvis Cocker announced that the band would give their cash to the charity War Child.

That year, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite divided her bounty between multiple good causes, including the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I gave a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite told a publication.

Two years ago, the band donated their funds to the youth organization that developed their group, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally 1994 winners the group gave their winnings to a MS organization after a close contact was diagnosed the illness.

"The victory was sufficient," stated vocalist the singer. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our winning touched another person's life."

Recently, the trust revealed it had rescued two grassroots venues in south-east England, by bringing them into local control.

The Joiners in Southampton and the second in that location were bought under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by a national body and supporters who purchase "stakes" in the buildings.
