Tetris Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant prize-giving event nears, one notices a clamor for the addition of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is a necessary evil in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games for the title of best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the hard edge game development, developing some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Just like movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
